the "what is the actual point of it?" test is kind of like 5 whys but instead of using it for a problem you use it on a project or idea.
it's to help you work out if your idea is the right thing to work on
oh cool how does it work?
- you get an idea
- you ask "what is the actual point of it?"
- if the answer is one of the following, ask "yeah, but what is the actual point of it?"
- a description of the end result
- a description of people using the end results (e.g. looking at some information, filling in a form)
- keep asking until you get an answer that defines a real outcome or result
- if you can't reach that point, maybe your idea needs a bit of wrangling
